Why self care may not be working for you

Hey guys!

Yasmin here! So I had a whole Monday Motivation set out and ready to share with you all and then I read a few messages I received and a lot of them were questions on ‘How I do what I do and find balance.’ So decided to get up and re-write a new blog for you all:) lol!

I would be lying if I said I had the balance thing on lock because I don’t and there are a few of my friends that will tell you I take forever to reply to messages. (sorry friends) If you are new to this blog then I am Yasmin, founder of Pick Me Up Inc, mum to 6 year old Cameron, part time beauty therapist and student training to be a PT but I wanted to share my secret that keeps me going.

S E L F  C A R E and S E L F  L O V E.

If you have purchased one of our calendars then you would know FEBRUARY is the month of self love.  Before I really exercised REAL self care I was miserable. I was experiencing success with Pick Me Up but felt so depleted and tired …and would end up in burn out. I then started to make sure I took care of self when these little crashes happened and I would feel great but then slowly I would burn out again. I didn’t get it… I was doing all the stuff the self help books said and would get that great burst of energy. Then one day it clicked.

Self care isn’t a quick fix.

Knowing when you need to rest and recharge BEFORE you burn out is key and it can take some time as at first when you’re experiencing WINS you just keep going and running off the HIGH. Then you crash… THEN you seek self care. But if we had incorporated self care in to our everyday routines and respected our boundaries and that magic word ‘no’ then we would experience far less burn outs in the first place.

I have learnt to indulge in self care through out my journey so I don’t experience that horrible burn out which if you suffer with feeling really low or have anxiety like myself can be detrimental to not only just your physical state but your mental state too. I have spent days before feeling so low about myself, questioning my whole goal, questioning am I even doing enough..then procrastination comes in…then the tears follow…And before you know it I feel as though I have hit rock bottom again. All because I am overworked and …well…just tired. But I no longer use self care as just a pick me up or a quick fix. I have created a habit that I exercise it just as I do washing my skin, brushing my teeth. I have made it feel normal to be kind to myself, which most of us can find so hard to do.

D A I L Y  S E L F  C A R E  I D E A S

-Turn your phone on do not disturb for an hour

-Have a meal where you aren’t doing anything else

-Journal

-Take the time to listen/watch something that makes you feel good

-Say no if you need to

-Have a facial wash routine

-Read a chapter of a book/listen to a podcast

-Exercise

Now you don’t need to do all of these, I probably do a bout 4 of these a day and they are such small shifts but they make all the difference, my actions communicate to myself that I am worthy of the time and deserving of the refuel. I take pleasure out of taking time out and have learnt not to feel guilty about it. Even at work I take time to just have a few moments to breathe and re-centre myself. (even if its in the toilet.lol)

This is DAILY self care, this isn’t the breaking down and rebuilding work everyone speaks about so often, this is the work that keeps you going. The maintenence (I have a whole chapter on it in my new book)

In my book I have also touched on the conditioning that we may have experienced from a young age with being selfish and being told ‘You have to share…or … Don’t be selfish’ and have looked at how deeply rooted that goes in to adulthood when we feel bad for saying no and sharing our time and energy and truly looking after self. Cannot wait to share it with you all!

But yh… this is it! My Monday Motivation for you is to find something that you can shift daily that is for YOU and to get into the habit of looking after yourself daily rather than just every 3 months when you experience the crash.

I hope this helps in someway and please feel free to drop a comment or e-mail any questions. Have an amazing week guys and don’t forget to look after you.

Love & Light always
