Monday Motivation- Dream job

Good rising you beautiful person,

So it’s Monday, most of us hate a Monday but I want you to imagine that today you are going to have your dream day, what would that consist of? What sort of job would you be waking up to? What sort of clothes would you wear? What would it take for you to wake up and smile? You got it? All in your head? Can you see yourself having the dream day? Or at your dream job? Well amazing if you can but if you can’t then stop complaining about a Monday because how can you dislike a day when you don’t even know what it would take to make it better?

If you have the vision then awesome, now it’s time to plan for you to get there. Sometimes we allow our own negative self talk to stand in our way of pursuing the job we really want. Or we allow friends and family to talk us down because they want us to stick to that ‘stable’ job you’ve had for your years because you’re safe there. The job that makes you the most unstable mentally and makes you not want to get up in the morning.

Your dream job can be ANYTHING. Whatever that title may mean to you, a dream job can be teaching, being a road sweeper, working in a library, being an artist or whatever. Even if you have to go back to uni or have to train up all over again. Whatever it means for you to wake up and be happy with going to work. People hear dream job and think you have to have a one way ticket to entrepreneurship. That is not the case at all! Your dream job is simply the one you can wake up to and not feel anxiety, dread and think of every excuse under the sun to call in sick just to avoid going to work.

My dream job at one point was a general assistant in Sainsburys, because I NEEDED a job which allowed me to spend more time with my son, concentrate on PickMeUpInc and still pay the bills. A peasant job to some but my dream job to allow me to live the life I want. So the difference between me and some of my friends were that I didn’t mind going to work whilst they in much more luxurious jobs had a face like a wet weekend everyday. Of course I started to dislike certain things at work so I changed job. Again its important to exercise the fact that you have a CHOICE. Something we all forget now and again.

Growth and change can be scary just like the transition a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly, but the struggle out of the cacooon isn’t in vain. The end result is so much more worth it and through the struggle the butterfly reaches its true potential.

So today is Monday, what will you do? Will you be beaten up by one day? Or will you realise that this world is your oyster and you have the ability to do so many wonderful things? You have the ability to realise your true potential! Whatever it may be I wish you nothing but happiness in abundance and a dose of courage too!

‘My Hair Journey’

Hi beautiful people!

This week is a personal one about me:) Yasmin! Well actually its all about my hair aka my mane aka my crown aka the big crazy curly fluff ball that sits on my head! HA-HA! So many people inbox about my hair and what products I use and how it remains so healthy although I colour it and another one I get asked is “How are you so confident with curly hair?”  Firstly I wanted to say I HATED my hair, like absolutely despised it! I’ve only had the confidence to wear it natural within the last 3 years! I used to straighten it all the time, longing to be like the girls in my class at school with their long wavy controlled hair whilst mine was stubborn and did as it pleased. I went through a few phases with my hair which resulted in it being very badly damaged and it lost all its life! See pictures below!

short blonde

These are just a few pictures which see me sporting all straight hair, whether blonde, brown, weave. I’ve also had red, black and even shaved the side of my hair but all hairstyles had one thing in common, there isn’t a curl in sight! I used to have beautiful curly hair but in my stubbornness to want it straight I ended up damaging it really bad and I will never forget washing it one day and it wouldn’t go curly, at all, I walked in to school and my friend Lauren couldn’t believe it, my hair literally looked like rats tails, and you know when bits go curly then you have all these straight bits that are just too damaged to do anything so they just hang there. That was me! I remember looking in the mirror and thinking “Well there you go Yas, you wanted straight hair and now you have it” and guess what? I hated it! I hated not having a choice between straight and curly.

Most girls now will find the front of their hair isn’t as curly as the back due to straightening, who remembers having a straight fringe and a massive bun? Ha-ha! But those that get weave sewn in and leave the front out to cover the tracks may definitely experience this. Or some like me would have damaged it all so you don’t want to wear it natural ever again and fall in to the trap of straightening it all the time. BUT WORRY NOT! Im here to say that with a bit of TLC and patience you can get your curls back in to tip top shape. Here is a picture of me when I first started wearing my hair curly at the end of 2012.

damaged curls

Although this is a very filtered photo (I can’t find anymore, I probably never took many because I felt hideous) you can still see that my curls are not very curly at all. My hair was awful but I stacked up on treatments and hair grease! ha-ha! I remember going to the hairdressers and asking for a trim to cut all the dead ends off, then I thought I have to rock this hair, I have to own it. Everybody hates the in-between stage especially me but I knew it would only be for a while. 3/4 months later my hair looked like this.

feeling confident

Still not as curly as I would have liked but I know I was feeling more confident and happy with it. I remember being so scared to put this up on instagram as it wasn’t the usual ‘middle parting weave’ that everybody else was rocking. BUT as time went on I started to love and embrace my NATURAL hair.

As time went on I invested in products such as Morrocan Oil and started to take regular trips to the hairdressers for trims and treatments. One of my favourite products to use was IC styling gel which comes in a clear squeezy bottle & is about £2.99 from hair shops such as ACE. I loved the fact it controlled the frizz of my curls but didn’t make them hard or crusty like most gels did once they dried. As time has gone on I’ve adopted a more natural approach and have made a few treatments at home. Much cheaper, easier and you know whats in it.

Olive Oil

Mashed all together and as you can see in the before and after picture above, it really did the trick! I left it on whilst I did the housework and rinsed out later in the evening. My hair felt amazing!

I have now started using Mrs Millis products as well which are all made buy her and are organic, I love the ‘Leave In Sweetness Hair Conditioner with Shea Butter Vanilla & Strawberry’ and not only are the hair products amazing but the body products are too! Please check them out guys! You won’t be disappointed!

My Hair Transition!

On my journey to conscious living and being aware of what I am putting on both my hair and body I have found that my skin and hair hasn’t felt better! I have started to appreciate my differences and also realised that not all curls are the same. I am learning to embrace mine and with the patience of nearly 3 years they are getting to stage where I love them. They are my crown and its funny because the odd time I do straighten my hair I don’t feel like me. My hair has grown very long and I’m actually cutting a fair bit off this weekend just to encourage that bounce and health. Anybody out there that has hair looking like my first few pics but is still in that trap of just straightening it you are only making it worse! The time will pass anyway and I am so happy that I started my journey on to *SAVINGMYCURLS*. You just have to have some patience and really invest in them! I hope this helps and if you have any more questions please feel free to e-mail in

Monday Motivation- 1 year for PICKMEUPINC!

Morning beautiful people!
Soooo on Saturday I celebrated the companies 1st birthday and by doing so I went out and handed out flowers to complete strangers, a ripple effect because I didn’t realise such a small act could make the difference it has! Also in celebration with it being our first year I will be reposting old videos through out the week to see what we have done and what we are all about!

Today I’m posting my first ever interview I did with Jayde, a young woman from South London who suffers with anxiety. I did this interview because anxiety is something that effects many, even myself. I wanted people to know that they are not alone and can create a life that isn’t controlled by anxiety.

Jayde has now moved her career in nails to the heart of London in the west end and also has a beauty blog! Check it out here…
I hope you have a great week and kick off those Monday blues!

Hey Guys!

So introducing the new page! ‘Pick&Mix’ where I thought it would be a really good idea to still have things to pick us all up but in different ways.Posting every Thursday, whether that may be an outing, events myself and Pick Me Up Inc attend or just random mix up of things that we think you would enjoy!

I’m going to kick start the first ‘Pick&Mix’ with an outing I took to a school in the heart of South London. It was my second time visiting the school on behalf of Pick Me Up Inc and I was left even more inspired then the first time which I thought would be impossible! I was invited down by Natalie Tomlinson to speak to her ‘Leading Ladies’. Natalie is somebody I admire and an inspiration to all as well as being the heart to these young people. She saw that there were girls in the school that for whatever reason were heading down the wrong path and instead of branding the girls off like most schools would, she saw the leadership skills and potential that each individual had, then was born ‘Leading Ladies’. A group of young women who have turned their aggression into passion and are now using their leadership in the most positive way.

I delivered a 50 minute class to the year 9 and year 10 students of ‘Leading Ladies’ on self love and self awareness. The class engaged so well and I was so impressed and left proud when I did an exercise where the students had to think about what they would change about themselves if money wasn’t an issue, normally I hear lists and lists of things but to my happiness not one of these beautiful ladies put their hand up. I then moved on to what I had thought would be the tricker question, ‘what do you love about yourself?’. I loved hearing the girls feedback and I was so impressed that it wasn’t all about looks, the girls spoke about their personalities, their caring nature, the abilities they possess to not give up and being proud of their heritage.

me infront of class

Speaking about self love is something I am very passionate about as this was not something we was taught when I went to school. I expressed that self love is a journey rather than a destination you arrive at, and I for one am still on that journey. Finding myself in situations where I had to question my self love and self respect I feel it is my social responsibility to share with the younger generation the importance of working on ones self.

My dad always told me to love myself first and at 23 I am only now starting to understand what that means. After seeing somebody for 3 years with no title you can say my self love was lost. The best and most important project we will ever work on is ourselves and sometimes the thing that we fear the most is the thing we need the most, ALONE TIME. You reading this are unique and you have the right to love yourself, you deserve to look in the mirror and like the person looking back. You owe it to yourself to understand your limits and boundaries and to know when a situation isn’t right and you damn well owe it to yourself to take yourself out of it. You are a seed, one that needs nurturing and watering, so why do you spend so much time watering everybody else’s seed and seeing them blossom yet you forget to water your own? We’ve been conditioned to think that being good to ourselves is selfish. From a young age all we hear is “share your toys, don’t be SELFISH!” “share your sweets, don’t be SELFISH”. That word does my head in, sometimes we have to be selfish with our time and with ourselves. We spend so much time out there trying to please everybody else, what about pleasing ourselves once in a while? In no way shape or form am I telling you to drop every body but this is just a gentle reminder that your needs need to be met too.

The girls from ‘Leading Ladies’ left me feeling proud and smiling that at such a young age with all the pressures of social media they were able to dig deep and appreciate themselves. I really really enjoyed listening to their feedback and at one point found myself sitting on one of the tables just listening to them discussing amongst themselves. It really touched me and made me even more aware what a duty we have to the younger generation. To help where we can and even just to LISTEN. I will be returning to do further workshops with these lovely ladies and I cannot wait!

I hope you enjoyed this ‘Pick&Mix’ and look out for our next one next Thursday:)

Book Review- ‘Above Romance’ by Kojo

Hey guys!

So firstly apologies as this was supposed to be posted yesterday but I lost all my footage yesterday when doing a last minute edit on it, I got it back, thankfully! lol!

So this review was about the book ‘Above Romance’ written by the one and only Kojo. Kojo more known for his humour or his ‘Kojo’s comedy fun house’ and also presenting on Capital XTRA has broken boundaries here with its witty characters and all too familiar story lines of cheating men and independent women he definitely would have shocked a few who just know him for his comedy.

Although the book is fiction it is very relatable and I found myself glued to the pages 2 minutes in. In a generation where love is seen as uncool and its much easier to have a harder exterior as to not get hurt this book gave me some comfort and hope that love is out there. (claps hands! haha) Allowing me to identify some of my characteristics through the characters the book allowed me to see where maybe I was going wrong in this thing we call ‘love’.

Definitely giving this book a massive thumbs up and a well done to Kojo! Please continue to spread your love and positivity and know that you are appreciated. I also felt very blessed to be able to get a little video interview with the man himself which is also in the review:) I hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed and go and get the book! You won’t be dissapointed! Link for the book-

Monday Motivation-Consistency is the key

Morning guys!!

As we start a new week which also leads us in to a new month I wanted to touch on the importance of remaining consistent.

Anything in life only works when you remain consistent, your muscles in the gym only maintain when you are consistent when you work out, you only continued to get paid when you consistently go to work, even the universe teaches us…the earth consistently spins on its axis and the tide consistently goes in and out, without these consistency’s we wouldn’t survive.

Your goal or dream is the same, whether your aim is to get a new job, a new body or start a new project. Consistency is key. Just like you would water a flower to allow it to grow, your goal and dream should be like that flower. You water it with your enthusiasm and hard work and whilst it’s growing you still maintain that care.

Don’t let the temptation of ‘I’ll do it later’ ruin your chance at greatness. Don’t let inconsistency sweep in and ruin all your hard work.

This is a new month and a new week! Grab it with both hands and whatever you are working on, go hard.

Love&light always

Monday Motivation- PickMeUp and Simbafarian!
